Lenten and Easter Hymns
posted on February 01
Nickolas Campbell, Retired Clergy, wrote two hymns for Ash Wednesday and Lent that he has shared with the North Central District Office to share with the district as a resource. Nickolas gives his permission to use them in worship services. There is no need for a license to use either the song sheets or the videos. The tunes are in the public domain, and since he wrote the lyrics , he gives permission to our United Methodist congregations to use them in their worship services in person and online. "We are the Dust of God" could be sung (by the congregation, choir, or soloist) during the Ash Wednesday service, probably just before the imposition of ashes, as it emphasizes the importance of humbling ourselves and of participating in Lenten disciplines. "Take Up Your Cross" could be sung any Sunday during Lent, as it pairs our actions during Lent (taking up our cross, denying ourselves, following Jesus) with the gospel promise of new life in Christ. We hope these resources will be a blessing for your church.
